… I am fulfilled, committed to saving lives, says Affected Medical Chief
There are indications that the acceptance of some healthcare deliverables by benefitting Primary Healthcare Centres, (PHCs) in Ilorin, from the former Senator representing Kwara Central District at the National Assembly, Senator Yahaya Oloriegbe has been met with a string of punitive measures by the State Government.
This development, according to a top source, affected the deployment of the hospital heads from their base to a relatively new place of primary assignment, THE ELITES WATCH ONLINE NEWSPAPER can authoritatively report.
It should be recalled that the wife of the former Senator, Hajia Maimunat Oloriegbe had recently facilitated the distribution of maternity equipment as part of her ongoing health-assisted programs for some Primary Healthcare Centres, (PHCs), in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The maternity equipment donated by the former lawmaker’s wife comprises Sterile supplies, Clothing, Diapers, and about 16 other newborn essential needs which she said: “will ease the preparation of the expectant parents whilst ensuring safer and more hygienic deliveries”.
Beneficiaries of the healthcare deliverables as facilitated by Senator Oloriegbe’s wife include Ero Omo Primary Health Center in Ilorin South; Cottage Hospital Adewole in Ilorin West; and Oke Suna Health Center in Ilorin East local government areas of Kwara state.
According to a top ally of the affected hospital head who pleaded anonymity, it was alleged that the Chief Medical Officer of Adewole Cottage Hospital, Dr. Adebayo Suleiman was queried by high-ranking state officials after the commissioning and presentation of the healthcare deliverables to his office.
It was further learned that despite the absence of the Medical Chief on the day of the presentation due to his mother’s demise, the Kwara State Government summoned and issued him a letter of immediate redeployment to Ilesha-Baruba Cottage Hospital in Baruten Local Government Area of the state.
Adewole Cottage Hospital is located at Olohunshogo Western Reservoir Area, Adewole Estate in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.
“Dr. Adebayo is my friend and a well-known committed and dutiful health practitioner. He is always committed to saving lives, and he is blessed with children and a wife who are all living here in Ilorin, how come he is suddenly being transferred to a faraway place in Ilesha-Baruba because of what he knows not?
“My friend has been working at Cottage Hospital in Ilorin for over seven years without any rancour or cases of nonperformance. He is just being a victim of what he knows not. I think Gov. Abdulrazaq in his usual manner was not happy with the donation by the Senator and he has taken steps to get at the hospital officials by transferring them to a faraway place of primary assignment,” a top source who pleaded anonymity said.
THE ELITES WATCH ONLINE NEWSPAPER, however, learned that the wife of the former lawmaker also unveiled three newly established newborn corners across the three local government areas as part of the Pharmacist Council of Nigeria 2023 Capital project tagged “provision of the newborn corner and mama kits for selected health facilities in Kwara State”, an initiative that has garnered applause from beneficiaries across the state.
When contacted, the affected Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Adebayo Suleiman debunked the news of his involvement in any form of political play, saying that he is a fulfilled healthcare practitioner, and despite his “miraculous transfer”, he will remain committed to saving lives throughout his career.
“Well, I have moved on from the shock of my miraculous transfer from Ilorin to Ilesha-Baruba, and I am doing very fine here while collaborating with staff and developing areas that will improve the healthcare system here in Baruten Local Government Area.
“I am committed to saving lives and improving the healthcare system throughout my career journey,” the newly redeployed Chief Medical Officer of Ilesha-Baruba Cottage Hospital, Dr. Adebayo Suleiman said.
Meanwhile, some observers in the state have alleged that the governor has been hard on politicians from within and outside of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) who want to outshine him through community development projects.
Observers alleged that the Kwara State Government’s recent public statement by the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Works and Transport, Mansurat Amuda-Kannike instructing public figures who intend to intervene in state-owned facilities to approach the government for concurrence and approval.
“This is due process, which is necessary for official records and accountability. Such communication also prevents duplication of efforts and confusion arising from arbitrary work on government’s facilities without prior notifications and approvals,” the statement reads.
