OUR beloved Kwara State has been acclaimed globally for peace and tranquility, and I feel the appellation is fast going into reverse gear as the incumbent government lacks the awareness of what is on the offing.
Specifically, the worrisome spate of kidnapping and banditry activities in the Southern part of Nigeria is fast becoming a tragic moment for Kwara state. In recent times, the region has grown to become a haven and hotspot for ungodly activities. It is far from a fairytale to leave Kwarans in palpable fear as the goodwill of being a peaceful state is frittering away at the speed of light.
Quite appalling is the ugly happenings in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State where serial cases of back-to-back kidnapping activities were been carried out by ungodly gunmen.
A Christ Apostolic Church pastor was abducted recently in Ekiti LGA after completing a 21-day crusade with a huge ransom as demanded by the kidnappers. Yet again, a report by the ‘Afrika Eyes’, an online media outfit narrated the harrowing experience of some abductees in the hands of these ungodly Kidnappers.
Another dastard occurrence under the watch of the incumbent Kwara State Government is the kidnapping of a station manager in the same Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, where ransom was being demanded by the victim abductors. How the State of Harmony has become the den of Kidnappers keeps me in awe, Gov AbdulRazaq; hope you are not sleeping?
Let me use this opportunity to join the condolence register by mourning the tragic death of the revered traditional ruler, the Olukoro of Koro, HRH Oba Peter Olusegun Aremu-Cole, a retired Army General who was shot dead on Thursday night in his palace by ungodly kidnappers. According to reports, the late monarch’s wife, child, and one other person were equally kidnapped during the dastard activities of his killers in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State. May the land receive peace and healing.
Should we say Mr Governor is defiant to the heart-wrenching condition of these victims with his remark during his visit to Al-Kadrriyah family, one of the several kidnapped victims in the country’s federal capital territory? He said and I quote: “We are too strong as a people to bow to the few cowards who target citizens in their nefarious activities.” One can imagine that Mr Governor after making this strong statement couldn’t pay adequate attention to the security situation in the state.
Mr Governor, it is inexcusable to make statements without actions to follow it. The protection of lives and properties lies on the buck of your table! We cannot assume our state is safe and secure while these deadly elements keep operating at our doorsteps. We need to flush them out as soon as possible!
Mr Governor, it is high time you wield the big stick on these criminal elements. Forget about plying the route of propaganda. Your so-called loyalists would misdirect your government by writing their usual sweet epistle to curry favour which is an opprobrious journey to barbarity and inhumanity. Your kitchen cabinet members would be yawning everywhere over these urgent-needing issue that you’re the victim and that the opposition has been contrived to make you look bad and being ineffective and inept leader in the eye of the public. Gov, AbdulRazaq, ignore the RHETORIC!
In my concluding note, I hope the Kwara State Government will defy the use of propaganda and start to take decisive actions on how to tame the threats coming from these criminal elements.
The unbelievable tragedy that unfolded in Ekiti Local Government and other bordered communities shown that these criminal elements have established a presence in Kwara; mere looking at the pattern of their operations in Border States like Niger and Ekiti States in recent times. Gov. AbdulRazaq; I hope you are not sleeping?
