“This gathering is an avenue to pray for the late Alabi Lawal and as well deliver a public lecture in his honour. Let me remind you of the legacies of this magnificent one during his lifetime, he was always full of life, he was always there for the aged and the poor. For some of us that were witnesses to his tenure as the governor of Kwara State, He was always there for the Islamic community particularly the scholars.
“During his tenure, almost all the Islamic clerics in Kwara were gifted cars and despite his gesture, the scholars will always be there to speak the bitter truth to his face. He was always ready to listen. He was God-fearing.
“As we gather here to honour the fifteen years of his demise, I urge the proteges of the late Alabi Lawal to uphold this six cardinals in order to sustain the legacies that he left behind. We pray to God Almighty to lighten his grave as we believe he is in the good hands of his Creator.”
