The Management of the University of Ilorin has announced that the institution’s 36th convocation ceremony activities will commence on October 15, 2021.
This much was disclosed in a statement signed by the University’s Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun.
He stressed that this year’s ceremony will be hybrid and only graduands with invitations will be admitted into the University’s Auditorium on the convocation day.
According to him, the Convocation activities will commence on Friday 15th of October, 2021, with a special Jumu’ah service at the University Central Mosque by 1:30 pm. He said the next activities will be on Sunday 17th of October, 2021 featuring an Interdenominational Church Service at the St. Thomas Aquinas Chaplaincy, at the Main Campus starting from 9:00 am.
Mr. Akogun, who is also the secretary of the University’s ceremonial Committee, said that the main event of the convocation ceremony will formally kick off on Monday 18th of October, 2021, with the Vice-Chancellor’s Press Briefing at the University Auditorium by 10 am.
On a later day on Thursday 21st of October, 2021, the conviction ceremony will feature the ‘Convocation Play’ entitled No Secret Anywhere – (A south African Dance Interpretation) by Steven James, Choreographed by Felix Akinsipe, at the University’s Performing Arts Theatre between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm.
The Institution’s Convocation Lecture comes up on Friday, October 22, 2021, and is to be delivered by a legal luminary, Mallam Yusuf Ola-Olu Ali, lecture entitled: “Tertiary Institution and the Future of Nigeria, ”according to Akogun, this will be held at the University’s Auditorium starting from 10 am.
Also, the grand convocation ceremony will be held on Saturday, 23rd of October, 2021, at the University Auditorium, starting from 10 am, with the Awards of Prizes, First and Post-graduate Degrees, and Diplomas for all the fifteen (15) Faculties and Post Graduates school.
Mr. Akogun, however, emphasized that the physical attendance on the main convocation day will be strictly by invitations and restricted to only graduands with First Class Honours, Prize Winners, and Doctoral Awardees.

He added that on the main convocation day, The Institution’s Visitor (President Muhammadu Buhari) will commission newly completed projects in the University, proceedings which will lead to the Convocation Luncheon and Merits Awards for deserving staff members will therefore hold at the University’s Multi-Purpose Hall by 3:00 pm.
In addition, Mr. Akogun said a Thanksgiving Church Service as well as Jumu’ah service for Appreciation will be held on Sunday, 24th of October, 2021, at the Chapel of Light and Unilorin Central Mosque, respectively.
Among dignitaries expected to attend the Convocation Ceremony are the Visitor to the University, President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR; The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu; The University’s Chancellor and the Emir of Katsina, HRH Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman; State Governors; Heads of Parastatals under the Federal Ministry of Education; Vice-Chancellors from various Universities in Nigeria and abroad; Traditional Rulers as well as prominent individuals from within and outside the country.
“The University management enjoined all guests, including processing and non-processing graduands to put on their face masks and strictly observed all non-pharmaceutical protocols, ”he added.
