The National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC), Coordinator in Adamawa State, Mr Jingi Dennis, Thursday revealed that the friends of a deceased corps member who slumped and died during the penalty shoot-out stage of the match between Nigeria and South Africa on Wednesday evening claim he never like watching penalty shoot-out.
He confirmed this during a telephone conversation with newsmen.
The NYSC Coordinator said “I received the news of his death last night. I hope to have more details today.
“According to his friend who went with him to watch the match, the late corps member told them he didn’t like watching penalty shoot-outs. He then bowed his head and all of a sudden, he collapsed.
“He was confirmed dead at the General Hospital in Numan by the doctor.”
The deceased corps member, simply identified as Samuel is a native of Kaduna and observing his mandatory one-year youth service in Numan in Adamawa State before his unfortunate demise.
According to reports, the late corps member fainted before the kick of the winning goal which earned the Super Eagles a sweet victory against the Bafana Bafana side.
The late Samuel, however, died before he could be rushed to the hospital.
Meanwhile, a social media post by a witness of the unfortunate incident reads, “We lost one Nigerian during our victory celebration over South Africa today at our sports viewing centre here in Numan.”
