There were manners of expressions as a young businessman, Politician, and Stalwart of the Social Democratic Party in Kwara, Hon. Kareem S. Idowu Olomoh popularly called KSI met with the party’s stakeholders in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state, declaring his interest to contest for the Omupo State Constituency seat at the Kwara State House of Assembly.
He made this declaration during a stakeholder’s meeting held on Saturday at Omupo Township Hall, Ifelodun local government area of the state.
Speaking at the meeting, Olomoh pledged to sponsor bills that would bring succor and relief to the good people of Kwara State particularly his constituency if elected.
He said, “Look at where all of you are coming from, you couldn’t quantify the pain our bad road has caused you as a result of bad governance.
“In Osun State, for example, we can’t compare the development there with that of Kwara State. I am telling you that what we are supposed to do in Kwara State, we haven’t done it. And those we had voted for didn’t perform up to our expectations.
“What most of them do is to go there to get rich. Truly when you get there, you will get the money but we need to remember that no matter how rich someone is when he is dead he won’t be buried with his money.
“If we are thinking about death, little we would be paying keen attention to riches. It is you people who will stay inside the sun and rain during the campaign and electioneering processes. All these things are usually what I shared in your pains. I remember in the last election, we worked together to bring this present administration but when they assumed power, they seem to forget those who elected them.
“We are not here to blame anybody, it’s God that is doing his wonder to us. If this doesn’t happen, we may not know how to rejig and restrategies our plans and discover our lapses too. I used to say something then that we didn’t ask God to choose better leadership for us, we are just praying we want to change the government of Kwara State.
“That’s what resulted in all we are seeing now. I am now praying that in the election that is coming before us, may God Almighty choose a better leadership for us. The House of Assembly seat I am requesting from you(my mothers, fathers, brothers and lovers), I wish to go there as one of the Honourable who wants to change the whole story to something more pleasant.
“If I am elected by the special grace of God, I would do those things that will help the society grow. If we should examine the current 9th Assembly, I don’t think they have sponsored more than 5 bills in three years of their tenure. This is their fourth year and yet they haven’t sponsored more bills. How could such a state develop?
“We shouldn’t deceive ourselves. If a state must develop, the Honourables must often sponsor bills that would favour the masses. There is no need for a legislature to continue to distribute palliatives, if they can promote bills that would provide relief and succor to the people, no one would be after them sharing palliatives.
“If you are sharing tricycle, motorcycle and many more, you don’t love the masses. You need to do things that would make them feed for themselves without looking up to anyone or any palliatives from the government.
“I believe if the government employs its people there won’t be a need for sharing of palliatives. So, all those things that will engage our youths and make them financially independent are what we suppose to prioritize. I pray God Almighty will let us achieve all these when elected.”
The House of Assembly Aspirant prayed to God to preserve him upon goodness in order to fulfil all his agenda.
“I pray to God to preserve my humility even after being elected so that I can fulfil all my pledges. My agenda is different. I am not coming to declare my ambition so that I can embezzle money, or do as I like when I am elected. I am going there to do the wishes of the masses. Even if I will use my salary to provide succor for my people so that they can pray for me, I am ready to do so.
“I pray God to preserve me upon goodness, untimely death shall not be our portion. We all should witness new dawn in our darling state. I thank you all for assuring me of your massive support. May God Almighty bless you in folds,” he expressed.
The party’s woman leader in Omupo Ward, Mrs Eyiwunmi Titilayo said that they have been disappointed in the past by those they elected, adding that this time they won’t be drumming and singing to support any aspirant.
According to her, “We have heard all that you said but let me tell you that was how those we elected in the past too usually made promises and when they get there, they won’t remember we the electorates who brought them into power.
“We have been disappointed in the past. This time around we won’t be drumming and singing for any aspirant as we have done in the past. We don’t want to witness any disappointment again.”
Meanwhile, She expressed that only God determine who leads, stating that if it is his time, he will surely win the seat.
“It’s only God who determines the person who leads not a human being. It’s only God who determines the time and period for anything we are planning to do. I want us to take Tijani’s case as an example when he met us at Idofian, many people didn’t want him but when God has destined him, he was later supported and won the seat.
“We are not yet sure of your agenda, although you have highlighted it. But saying it does not guarantee that you will do it. It is easier to say I will do this, and that when elected. Many people have said this in the past and later failed us.
“My prayer for you is that God will let it be your own time too. If it’s your time, no doubt all your good mission would be accomplished. All of us seated here are who decide the outcome of an election in our local government. If it is your time, we pray you to win the seat. And we also pray none of us would be missing when it’s time to reap the fruits of our labour,” she expressed.
For her part, Mrs Ogundele Esther, Woman Leader Igbaja Ward 1, supported the candidacy of Olomoh, saying that she has known him for many years to be a credible personality.
She, however, urged the stakeholders to give him maximum support so that he can change the narratives of the maladministration they had experienced and currently experiencing in their local government.
Those present at the meeting include SDP Chairman Omupo Ward, doubled as Chairman of all Ward Chairmen In Ifelodun Local Government, Mr Mudashiru Gbadamosi; Agunjin Ward Chairman, Mr Tajudeen; Mr Akeem Aweda Ward Chairman Idofian Ward 2; Ogundele Esther Woman Leader Igbaja Ward; Mr Mustapha Abolarin Youth Leader Ora Ward; Woman Leader Omupo Ward Mrs Eyiwunmi Titilayo and others.
