A non-governmental organization, Raina Orphans and Vulnerable Children Support Organization has embarked on a supportive outreach program in Ilorin.
The outreach which was held with primary school pupils at the Jooro L.G.E.A Primary School, Egbejila Airport road in Ilorin, is in commemoration of International Girl Child’s Day which is aimed at celebrating the younger ones in the society.
According to the Founder, Mrs. Rahmat D. Aremu said that the outreach was considered necessary in their relentless efforts to support and impact the orphans and vulnerable children. She noted that this will impact the young pupils by providing them with an opportunity to learn from the experience of the older generation. She added that the experience will guide them in their journey to adulthood.
“The main concept is to support the orphans and vulnerable children. What we mean by the orphans are those that have lost their parents but we had to include the vulnerable ones because they have parents but are unable to meet up with their needs.
“In commemoration of the International Girl Child’s Day, We’re here to celebrate not only the girl child but the entire young ones who have lost their self-confidence and the opportunities to mix with others.
“ As you can see, Our Organization is trying to impact the pupils with rules to imbibe to become a better person in the society. One of the lectures given to the pupils today is our personal life stories particularly one of us who became an orphan about 19 years ago and had to fend for himself for years and now he’s here to contribute his quota to the development of the younger generation and the country at large.
“We also provide them with instructional materials which enables us to lecture them on the rules of making a better person in life. We lectured them on how to be kind to others, maintaining good brotherliness, and also how to keep their environment clean and safe. A clean society is a safe society, they say. These are rules that will guide them through their various pursuit in life.
Also speaking, Mr. Bashir Luqman disclosed that the organization is committed to supporting the aspirations of the younger ones. He asserted that the organization will continue to put more effort into providing succour to the orphans and the vulnerable ones through their numerous programmes.
“We’re committed to the aspirations of the younger generation. Expectations are as much as we can think of, we believe there is no point embarking on this kind of project without a proper monitoring team. We will ensure there is proper monitoring on all our outreach to ascertain the successes and weaknesses of our programmes.
“We’ve created a good synergy between the school management and our organization so that subsequently when we engage them in a mentorship programme, we will measure how they have fared in their academic pursuit and their life expectancy, ”he said.
Meanwhile, Members and the Founder of the organization present monetary support to the selected beneficiaries, while other pupils were supported with souvenirs and writing materials.
