…Orders reconstruction of collapsed Culvert on Shao-Malete road
Barely two weeks after the publication of an Investigative report by THE ELITES WATCH ONLINE NEWSPAPER reporter over the lack of a substantive Vice-Chancellor and Governing Council of Kwara State University, KWASU, the Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Wednesday evening announced the appointment of a new chairman and members of the Governing Council for the state-owned varsity.
However, the governor had ordered the immediate deployment of machinery and workforce to the site of the collapsed culvert on Shao-Malete road in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State.
According to a statement on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, by the governor’s Spokesperson, Rafiu Ajakaye, the six members including the former Vice-Chancellor of University of Ilorin Prof AbdulGaniyu Ambali who is to serve as the new chairman of the Kwara State University Governing Council.
Recall that a recent investigative report by THE ELITES WATCH ONLINE NEWSPAPER reporter, Abdulwaheed Sulaiman revealed that the Kwara State University had been battling with administration problems due to the lack of a substantive Vice-Chancellor and Governing Council.
The Investigation was supported by THE ELITES WATCH FOUNDATION FOR INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISM (TEWFIJ).
The Investigation also uncovered the mysterious admission quota policy by the state-owned varsity and the lack of sufficient academic staff to carry out the teaching job amid other concerns as expressed by management staff and host communities.
In a statement by the acting Vice-chancellor on Wednesday, January 15, 2024, it was gathered that the Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had ordered the immediate commencement of the reconstruction of a collapsed culvert on the Malete-Shao road which is pivotal to vehicular movement from the state capital to the University and the many agrarian communities in the area.
It should be recalled that the acting Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University, KWASU, Prof Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh had on December 17, 2023, during the tenth and eleventh combined convocation ceremony of the University called for urgent government attention on road facilities in the state-owned varsity.
He also lamented the growing vehicular traffic on not just the road to the University, but the numerous agrarian communities within the axis.
Meanwhile, other members of the Kwara State University, KWASU, Governing Council as announced by the governor include Professor Ibrahim Jawondo; Professor Aishetu AbdulKadir; Barrister Teju Oguntoye; Abdullahi Biogera; and Daudu Funmilayo Maryam who represents the host community and the youth constituency.
