A Youth Leader and Ojomu North North West Ward Councilorship Aspirant in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State, Comrade Abubakar Olumide Hassan better known as ‘Achiever’has debunk the news making round that he has forgone his ambition in contesting the councilorship seat at the forthcoming local government elections in the state.
Acheiver made this disclosure while speaking with THE ELITES WATCH correspondent on Tuesday in Offa, He asserted that his ambition is a ‘lifelong ambition’, adding that he’s joining the race in the interest and betterment of his people.
He said, “As far as I am concerned, Elective Positions are not for self-serving but to better the lots of the people that elected you into office. Politicians in Nigeria should focus on the people rather than celebrating mediocrity. The people should be the topmost priority of every politician that seeks political offices whether elected or appointed positions. It is therefore in the best interest of the people to repose confidence in a candidate to represent them at all levels and that’s why I have decided to throw my hats in the right.
“I want to state emphatically that I am in the race to contest the councilorship seat in my ward in the best interest of my people. My dream of becoming a legislator is a lifelong ambition. Although, there have been rumours over the media that I have dropped my ambition for something else but I can say it’s all LIES.
“Over time, I have shown interest to contest the councilorship seat in my Ward and I’ve never considered dropping it for anything because it is the people’s ambition. I am a Youthful Candidate and as the wise saying ‘The Youths are the future of tomorrow’and the tomorrow is NOW.
“My people wanted me to lead them and I won’t disappoint them when the time is ripe.”
There have been rumours spreading across the media about the conduct of the local government elections in Kwara State. Although, some political actors cited that the local government poll may hold before the end of the year but political analysts have opined that the elections may not hold pointing to the political crisis within the ranks of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, in Kwara State.
Barring any last minute change, feelers in the Kwara State House of Assembly have hinted our correspondent that the Assembly would announce the names of the Electoral body nominated by the Governor and sent to the House for confirmation.
“I can confirm to you that the governor has sent names of the KWASIEC to the house for confirmation but we’re waiting for further order before we can make it public. Our governor is a gentleman and a respecter of rule of law, He is committed to conducting the local government poll before the end of the year, ”a source who preferred anonymity said to our correspondent.
