A socio-Political group in Kwara, Talba Voice, Ilorin South local government chapter has organised a summer lesson prize-giving ceremony to reward the outstanding students who performed excellently well in a lesson that was held during the holiday.
The programme was held today, 18th, September 2021, at the Kwara All Progressive Congress (APC) Secretariat situated at No 26, Reservation Road, G.R.A in Ilorin.
Speaking at the event, Comrade Lagbe Sulyman Abubakar, noted that the event was organised to promote education among the students and to motivate them to work hard to become successful in the field of academics.
He, however, disclosed that three(3) students were selected per ward within eleven(11) wards in Ilorin South local government.
The students were awarded with books and biros as part of the initiative of Talba Voice to encourage them to be serious in their academics.
The event was graced by dignitaries in All Progressive Congress (APC), which includes: Captain Isiaka Alao, an elder statesman and representative of Prof. Shuaib Oba AbdulRaheem; Akande Hakeem, Coordinator, Talba Voice, Ilorin south chapter; Lagbe Abubakar Sulyman, Secretary, Talba Voice, Ilorin South chapter; Mallam Lateef Ademola Monsuru, APC Chairman, Ilorin South Local Government; Hajia Mariam Abubakar and other APC members in Ilorin South local government.
Hajia Mariam Abubakar who spoke on behalf of women folks narrated how she suffered when she was sponsoring her children in school and how those children are now taken care of her after they have become something from western education.
“Take care of your children. When I was taken care of my children in school, I had only one cloth, but now, my children are now taken care of me, ” she said.
She, however, urged the parents to take care of their children by giving them sound education.
Captain Isiaka Alao, an Elderstatesman and representative of Prof. Shuaib Oba AbdulRaheem advised the children to focus on their academics and to be a good ambassador for their parents and the state at large.
Eji Abdulateef asserted that the Talba Voice has initiated a plan to distribute free JAMB and NECO forms to Secondary school students in Kwara state.
However, Chairman Akande Akeem added that they are planning to collaborate with other local governments in order to expand the good initiative across the state.
“We are bringing a messiah to reform Kwara state, and the person is Oba Abu,” he noted.
The students, however, expressed their gladness over the initiative, noting that they are grateful for Talba voice for giving them books and biros as a reward for their hard work during the summer lesson.
