The Senator representing Nasarawa Central and the Former Governor of Nasarawa State, Umar Tanko Al-Makura has declared his intent to vie for the office of the national chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC).
Al-Makura, a serving Nigerian Senator, made this known on Monday 4th of October, 2021 during a campaign rally ahead of the party’s LGA congresses in Nasarawa State, while speaking with the party members.
According to his statement, Al-Makura, APC national leader’s associate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, said his ambition for the chairmanship of the party is to foster unity in the APC while addressing the audience.
The serving Senator, also, assured that the value that formed the party in 2014 will be retained and protected, if he is elected.
Though, the ruling party, APC, has not officially announced a “zoning pattern”, but discussions from different angles have been centered on power shift to the south following the expiration of President Buhari’s administration in 2023.
However, it is observed that if the party approves chairmanship position zoned to the north, Al-Makura will be running alongside other contestants such as Salihu Mustapha, Ali Modu Sheriff, former governor of Borno state, and Abdulaziz Yari, former governor of Zamfara state.
