A tragedy occurred in the early hours of Saturday along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway as a container claimed the lives of three men who were occupants of a HOWO truck.
Reports indicated that the container fell off from a truck with registration number T-15636LA on an unregistered Sinotruk HOWO truck where the three men were trapped.
According to a statement released by the spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe, she said the circumstances that led to the tragic death of the three men are associated with overspeeding, and reckless driving which led to loss of control.
The statement reads, “Three persons were involved, all male adults, they were all killed by the container that fell and rested on the occupants of the HOWO truck.
“Moreso, the FRSC rescue team attempted to save the lives of the victims – the driver and two passengers but were unable to do so due to the severity of their injuries. The victims’ remains were then taken to a morgue in idera, Sagamu.
“We contacted a tow truck to remove the truck from the road, to enable easy traffic flow and a crane was brought in to remove the container. The authorities are still on the scene working to resolve the situation,” Mrs Florence Okpe said.
Meanwhile, the agency has appealed to drivers to imbibe simple safety measures whilst practising defensive driving and being considerate of other road users in order to avoid accidents.
